Amid the craze for xiaolongbao brought about by the likes of
Din Tai Fung, it’s easy to forget how comforting a cheap plate of boiled or fried pork
dumplings can be. Located on Kings Way, Long Dragon Dumpling House aims to
solve this problem.
Once you enter the restaurant, it becomes clear that
interior design was not a priority for the owners. However, far from being a
bad thing, the comfy leather chairs and the spacious tables give the place a
very family-friendly and relaxed vibe. The floor-to-ceiling windows keep the
inside bright and unlike your ‘stereotypical’ Chinese restaurant, everything is
very clean here.
Service was quick and efficient, with the food coming out
about 10 minutes after we had ordered. Speaking of food…
We ordered the Boiled Chicken & Prawn Dumplings (10pc,
$9.80). These were hot and very juicy. The skin was the perfect thickness and
texture and the filling had a strong umami flavour that was very addictive.

We also ordered the Fried Pork Dumplings (15pc, $10.50). These were really on point as they had a satisfying crunch and were also very juicy and flavourful.

I can confidently say that these are the best dumplings of
this kind (i.e. not yum cha or xiaolongbao) that I have had in Melbourne.
